Shaharut

A route at the heart of the Arava desert from Yotveta to Shaharut

Hiking Start: South to Kibbutz Yotveta, 69m ASL

Hiking: 10.7km, 608Hm, 2.5-3.5h

Takeoff Point: At the entrance to Shaharut village, 30m north to Mitzpe Nuriel, 524m ASL

Takeoff Type: Desert Rocks

Takeoff Direction: E

Landing Options: Arava desert open fields

Advantages: Beautiful ascent to Shaharut plateu, one of the most remote villages in Israel. Water is available in Shaharut. High cliff that almost always generates anabatic wind. 

Disadvantages: A long and remote route. The cliffs have a complex structure – soaring them can be rotorish. Walking back to the car in conditions are not active

 Caution: Full-On desert: hiking during the hot hours is exhausting.
